DIY Dry Shampoo

DIY Dry Shampoo is both inexpensive to make and effective. Plus, this natural dry shampoo is made with easy-to-find ingredients that you likely already have at home.

If you haven’t used dry shampoo before, then this will change your life! Dry shampoo is a powder that is applied to the scalp to absorb the excess oil and give the roots of your hair lift.

Using a standard “wet” shampoo can potentially strip your hair of natural oils. This, in turn, will lead to split ends and frizz. I know it seems totally counterintuitive, and goes against everything we was told growing up, but washing your hair too frequently will actually cause your hair to become more oily and make your scalp drier. Not a great combination!

Instead, if you feeling like your roots or scalp could use a quick pick-me-up, reach for your own dry shampoo solution. This DIY dry shampoo recipe, in particular, is filled with all kinds of plant power based ingredients.

  • 8g Arrowroot starch

  • 5 drops Rosemary Oil

  • 4 drops Lavender Oil

  • 3g Bentonite Clay

  • 26g Organic Cornstarch

  • 2g Raw Cacao Powder

Make it!

  1. Measure the ingredients into a bowl in the order that they are listed. Mix the arrowroot and essential oils together first, then add the clay, cornstarch and cacao powder if using.

  2. Mix well then sift the ingredients into a bowl with a pour spout.

To Use:

  • Transfer the mixture into a mason jar. Use a fat makeup brush to dust the powder on your scalp. Massage in and brush hair to style.

  • Alternatively, you can add the powder to glass spice jars with a shaker top and shake it directly onto your scalp. Massage in and brush hair to style.
